正在这时候,一个熟悉的身影走到小婉跟前说:“xiaowan, i need to talk to you.(小婉,我得和你聊聊。)” “is there a problem?(什么事啊?)” “it’s about your essay topic.(是关于你的小论文选题的。)”jk回答道。
到了讲台那头,jk拿出了小婉写的稿子《research on the cost performance of ford cars》(《关于ford汽车性价比的研究》)开始问她:“did you pick this topic by yourself?(这个题目时你自己选的吗?)” yes.”jk看着她,又温和地笑了笑:“take it easy. i won’t mark it today. i just want to know why you chose this topic.(别紧张哈!
小婉不知道该怎么回答,问道:“what’s wrong with this topic(这个选题有什么问题吗)?”
jk说:“i can see you put a great effort in the draft, but i can’t see your passion. are you rally a fan of ford cars?(看得出来,这篇草稿你写得很努力。
jk笑笑说:“it’s ok. you can think about it over the weekend and let me know your thoughts. remember - choosing a career which you are passionate about is very important. i just want to help you.(好,你仔细想一想再告诉我。
铃声响了,jk看着大家说:“guys, i have been your teacher for a week. but i haven’t asked you: why did you choose to study in australia?(同学们,我教了你们一周了。
下一个轮到小婉了,她说:“when i worked in china, i attended an english-speaking class at weekends. the teacher was from australia and he was younger than me. but he told us that he had been to around 30 countries. he told us the world is so big and it is worth to have a look. so i quitted my job and came here. i love the clouds and sky of this country.(我之前上班的时候,周末学了一个口语班。
jk突然打断她说:“it’s good to find something or someone you love here, and we can talk about australian people’s lifestyle some other time. but have you thought about how you are going to make a living after you graduate? are you able to find a job which not only you are passionate about but also generates income?(喜欢云彩是好事,关于澳洲的生活方式,改天我们还可以一起谈谈。
jk笑笑,又继续说道:“if you really like or enjoy doing something, you can tell us with no hesitation. for example, i like smoking. if i forget to have my cigarettes with me, i will really miss them! surely cigarette manufacturers make money out of me.(喜欢做的事情应该是脱口而出的,比如我喜欢抽烟,有的时候真的不能缺少它,当然它也让我帮助别人挣钱。)”
jk拍拍小婉的肩膀,对她说:“it’s ok. there are still a couple of weeks for you to think about it. take your time.(没事,现在离正式开始写essay还有一些时间,你可以好好想一想。)”
“please tell your mother we can’t go back!(请你转告你妈妈,我们不可能再走到一起了!)”jk又看了一遍,巴不得把手机直接锁柜子里,不用再去管。
